The Edinburgh Malaysian Games is a local tournament run by the Edinburgh University Malaysian Society. Held in Meadowbank Stadium, they organise a number of different sports such as basketball and table tennis. Obviously we’re more interested in the badminton. All five disciplines are included with large entries in even women’s singles.
While the standard of players is very mixed, some fantastic players enter so everyone gets competitive games. As they have ten courts for an entire day, they have a huge number of entrants which is brilliant. Although entries for EUBC are limited to ensure there is space for other teams, we are given a large number of spaces. We generally take 30 to 35 people along to the event. Lots of the supporters are very vocal so its great fun to watch and cheer.
The publicity officer will organise entry into the event for everyone who is interested. Entries usually cost £5 per person, per event and are first come, first served and aimed at intermediate players.
