So it is nearing that time of the year again, deadlines are fast approaching, work is building up and then there is these things called exams also nearing. However the badminton club has been enjoying recent success with our teams.

BUCS Nationals

At the end of February our top players travelled down to Sheffield and took part in BUCS Nationals. This is always seen as the toughest tournament of the season and brings together some of the best players in the country. This year Edinburgh pulled out some great results across the board. The players of the tournament though had to be the Morrison twins making it through to the quarter finals of the women’s doubles and from word of mouth is our clubs best ever result in BUCS Nationals. Well done to all the players that took part.

BUCS League

So the league is over and our 1st team has won Scottish 1A unbeaten and our 2nd team have won Scottish 3A unbeaten as well. This puts our first team in the Premier North Playoffs against Sheffield and Durham. The 3rd team finished 2nd in Scottish 4A with a very strong performance throughout and hopefully will push for promotion next year. Well done to all the teams on a very strong season in the divisions.

BUCS Trophy

In addition to winning their division our 2nd team have also made it through to the final of the Scottish Conference Cup which will take place at the end of this month and we will be hoping they come back as winners to add to their success already this season. Also our 1st Women’s also made it through to the semi-finals of the women’s trophy where they took on Loughborough. Sadly this ended in a loss but great achievement for making the semi-finals so well done to all the girls involved with the team.

Lothian League

As usual we do not know how we are actually doing in the Lothian league but with the introduction of the brand new website this will hopefully become clear soon. From hearing through everyone we seem to be producing strong results again and hopefully give us a good finish in these leagues.

Edinburgh Varsity

On the 18th of March Edinburgh took on Herriot Watt in the Edinburgh Varsity tournament. Edinburgh came out on top in the badminton and won the tournament overall. Well done to all players that took part.

AGM

Near the end of the semester we will be having our AGM. So if you are interested in running for a position speak to a committee member and find out what the position you are interested in is all about. It’s a great opportunity to get involved even more with the club and help make our club even better. Keep an eye out for more details on this.

Updates/Cancellations/Socials

As usual at this time of year the cancellations of sessions become a more common thing. Keep an eye on our facebook group as this is the best way to find out about any cancelled or additional sessions nearing the end of term. Social wise, we approach our end of semester night the Badminton Oscars. More information will follow on the facebook group and you never know you could already be considered in the running for an award.
